WHAT IS RETURNABLE TRANSIT PACKAGING?

This most commonly takes the form of crates, boxes, pallets, and other multi-trip products. Manufactured from a durable material, often plastic, this packaging is intended to be used multiple times over multiple trips.

It has an extended lifecycle when compared to single trip packaging, such as cardboard, which means that it is able to offer a lower cost per trip, reducing waste. Electing to use returnable transit packaging offers many benefits on environmental impact, efficiency gains, and branding options.

WHY USE RETURNABLE TRANSIT PACKAGING?

This type of packaging is already widely used in many industries, and is fast becoming a viable option for many businesses. Investing in reusable packaging results in a lower unit cost when considering the lifetime of the product. There is also a lower disposal cost at the end of the product's life, and the plastic used can be recycled again, keeping it out of landfill. Using plastic provides increased transit protection and minimises the need for secondary packaging, whilst the enhanced stacking ability and strength reduces the storage requirements, making use of space with nestable crates, stackable UDPs, and foldable collars.

Plastic also has added hygiene benefits, and can be easily cleaned. Reduced labour costs through ease of use are also notable, alongside improved company perception with branding potential across the whole range of returnable transit packaging. Perhaps the most important reason to use reusable packaging is the environmental impact, drastically reducing the amount of waste produced in transporting and shipping goods, as well as conserving energy by producing only one product that will be used again and again.

USING RECYCLED MATERIALS

Whilst using returnable transit packaging is already a great environmentally friendly alternative to one time use packaging, RGE are able to offer our full range of material handling products made from 100% recycled plastic.

Available in black, our recycled products maintain good strength and longevity, comparable to our virgin plastic range. At the end of their lives, our recycled material handling products can be recycled again in a circular and completely sustainable process.

THE REGRIND CENTRE

RGE operates our own regrind centre on site at our Whittlesey factory, which is used to produce our own reground material from old, worn, or damaged products that have been returned to us.

RGE are able to offer a buy back service, for any extra stock or old products to be recycled back into material which can be reused in the production of new product or goods parts. The centre is capable of processing polypropylene (PP), Acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS), Polyamide/Nylon (PA), Thermoplastic elastomer (TPE), and Polybutylene terephthalate (PBT) + Polyethylene terephthalate (PET), and will be expanding to grind other plastics as they become available.
